HOL CHAN & SHARK RAY ALLEY

Up close... abundant... marine life...

$50 US per person includes the adventure, park fees and snorkel equipment

Off the southern tip of Ambergris Caye is Belize's oldest marine reserve, the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Hol Chan is Mayan for "little channel". The entire reserve focuses on a cut through the reef (called a quebrada) which is little more than 23 m (85 ft) wide and 9 m (29 ft) deep. This sanctuary was officially established in 1987, and since then the return of all species of fish and growth of coral formations inside the reef has been quite fantastic.

Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley is approximately 6.4 km (4 miles) south of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. We have daily adventures at 9 am and 2 pm.  A scenic 15 minute boat ride delivers you into the reserve where our experienced and enthusiastic snorkel guides introduce you to the their underwater world. Depths range from 5 ft to 29 ft and there is plenty of opportunity to relax and enjoy the view.

Once you've had your fill of remarkable interaction with the marine life it will take no more than ten minutes to get you to Shark Ray Alley for the unforgettable heart-pounding adventure of "swimming with the sharks". Here our snorkel guide will rally the sharks and invite the stingrays over for a visit. After another 45 minutes of thrill we'll have light refreshments and head back to the dive shop.

Total trip time is about 2 1/2 hours.
