Just a 20 minute ride from San Pedro Town and up the coast of north Ambergris Caye is Mexico Rocks, a lavish collection of boulder coral home to puffer and parrot fish, lobsters and eels and colourful juvenile fish scurrying about.
Shallow and protected by the barrier reef from ocean swells, this site is great for novice snorkelers. At this site you will see boulder coral up to 3 .5 m (12 ft) tall nearly reaching the surface and providing refuge to a variety of marine lifesheltered in the coral’s nooks and crannies. Sea fans, azure vase sponges, and butterfly fish add life and color as well.
Underwater visibility at Mexico Rocks is perfect, with both dramatic canyon walls and caves through the coral formations. This adventure is perfect for novice adventurers.
Your snorkel guide will head north twice a day at 9 am and 2 pm. Mexico Rocks is less and 20 minutes by boat and has easy depths from three to 15 feet. After snorkelling for about 45 minutes your guide will whisk you to Tres Cocos for a up close look at the reef, or depending on what the underwater buzz is - he may even have something special to see, a once in a lifetime adventure. Agfter the second stop, 45 minutes later it will be time to head back tot he dive shop.
Total trip time is about 2 1/2 hours and includes your equipment.
